Tell MOleg: Protect the Will of the People!

Please consider this invitation to action from our partners at Missouri Jobs With Justice and the Will of the People Coalition.

Update from May 5, 2023:

The Senate passed HJR 43 on April 27, but added several amendments. The House has rejected the Senate’s amendments to HJR 43, leading to a conference committee. The members have been chosen, but the time/date of the committee meeting has not. We will post updates when the committee is scheduled to meet.

WE MUST CONTACT THE MEMBERS OF THE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE TO TELL THEM TO PROTECT THE INITIATIVE PETITION PROCESS!

REPRESENTATIVES

SENATORS

Current ballot summary for HJR 43

"Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to:

  • Allow only U.S. citizens to vote on initiatives;

  • Restrict legislative power to undo laws approved by voters; and

  • Pass initiatives by a majority of voters in a majority of congressional districts and a majority of votes cast statewide or by a fifty-seven percent majority statewide?”

You know how important the initiative petition is - we've repealed "right to work", raised wages, expanded Medicaid, and improved our lives as Missourians. That doesn't sit well with certain politicians and wealthy special interests. They want to limit our freedom to have a say in our state.

Email your senator now & tell them to protect the will of the people!

The Missouri Senate is currently debating HJR43 - one of the dozens of bills designed to destroy the initiative petition process. The politicians pushing these attacks aren't talking about helping families make ends meet, addressing our teacher shortage, or acting on the pressing issues facing our state.

Instead, they're talking about all the ways they wanted to take power away from Missouri voters.

No matter the particular bill or amendment, all of these attacks on the initiative petition have only one goal - to stop the people from having a say on the issues that impact our families most. Your senator needs to hear from you.

Take action right now to protect our power to make decisions through the ballot. Together, we can protect the people's power to make decisions.
