Missouri Voter Advocates Host National Day of Action July 17 Honoring Legacy of Rep. John Lewis

and Demanding National Standards to Protect the Freedom to Vote

Missourians will urge Congress to Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, The Freedom To Vote Act, the Native American Voting Rights Act, and D.C. Statehood and Realize John Lewis’ Vision for Democracy

On July 17, Missouri voter advocates will host John Lewis National Day of Commemoration and Action events in St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield to mark the four-year anniversary of the passing of Rep. John Lewis, joining 150 events happening in 41 states and Washington, D.C. to celebrate his extraordinary legacy and call on Congress to pass critical legislation to protect the freedom to vote, end gerrymandering, and get money out of politics to realize Rep. Lewis’ vision for a democracy that works for all of us.

The events, organized by the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition and partners, will educate, motivate and activate our community to work towards Congressional passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, the Native American Voting Rights Act and DC Statehood.

Missouri Congressional sponsors of these measures - including Cong. Emanuel Cleaver II and Cong. Cori Bush - will attend and speak at the events, alongside other officials and advocates, including Sen. Barbara Washington and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, who will present a proclamation naming July 17, 2024 as John Lewis Day of Action in St. Louis.
