Ashrei Endorses MO Healthy Families Petition
The Ashrei Foundation supports parents and families by endorsing the Missourians for Healthy Families and Fair Wages initiative to deliver earned paid sick time off and a fair minimum wage to Missouri workers and families.
This initiative will make Missouri the 16th state to guarantee workers a $15 minimum wage and the ability to earn paid sick leave. These policies will impact over 500,000 Missouri families and provide stability for workers and children. Signaures are currently being gathering to put this measure on the ballot, giving Missourians a chance to vote for these improvements in the 2024 elections.
This campaign has been recognized by the St. Louis County NAACP with a Human Rights award!
From the St. Louis/ Southern Illinois Labor Tribune on July 8th:
“The strong, well-funded and broad-based campaign will allow workers to earn paid sick days, and it will increase the minimum wage, giving working families a leap forward in November with a ballot initiative that underscores how critical Missouri workers are to the state’s economy.
The organization received the award at the NAACP’s 87th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner June 22 at the Marriott St. Louis Airport in St. Louis County. In accepting the award on behalf of the campaign, Richard von Glahn, Missouri Jobs with Justice political director, said that people, not businesses, are what drives the economy.”
Here’s what this measure will do if passed by Missouri voters:
Sick Leave
Workers will earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked. Employers under 15 employees can limit usage to 40 hours/year per employee and employers over fifteen can limit usage to 56 hours/year per employee. Sick leave may be taken to care for yourself or family members.
Wage Rate
This initiative will raise the minimum wage to $13.75 effective January 1, 2025 and $15 effective January 1, 2026. It will continue to increase annually with the cost of living thereafter.
